How long does it take you to build a guitar?

No less than 12 weeks, never more than 23 months

What does Wenge sound like?

Like the best rosewood you've ever heard - think Brazilian. Somogyi even says so.

Why Porter pickups?

Because they sound great, and Brian and I have forged a great relationship in which he has listened, and really dialed in on winds that work swimmingly in my guitars.

But I want nickel-silver frets...

Okay! We can probably accommodate that, but you'll have to ask nicely.

Will you put a Bigsby on my guitar?

Probably not.

Do you play guitar?

Yes, and I love it!

How many people work for you?

I build alone.

Can I have an apprenticeship?

I've tried that in the past... No.

What kind of finish do you use?

Acrylic Urethane.

You don use Nitro!?

No I do not, only on repairs and restorations.

Why don't you use Nitro?

It's soft and gummy when it's hot, has poor moisture resistance, and it's brittle when it's cold. It's also very particular about the conditions in which it can be applied.

Isn't the urethane a really thick finish?

Not unless someone chooses to apply it as such. It can be applied as thin as most nitrocellulose lacquer finishes, and thinner than a lot.

Do you make your own necks?

Yes. I wouldn't feel right calling myself a luthier, or this business AVP Lutherie if I didn't; I build every wood component in house, and even some of the hardware.
